I'm sorry that the answers weren't what you wanted to hear, but you will be better off.
You have two good pieces of equipment. I think it's high time you get in on a group buy or kit from "the store" to become familiar with these things. Watch out for kits on Ebay. Every one I bought has worked, but often the instructions were so poor that I had to use my knowledge in order to get it together. Building kits is fun. Too bad Heathkit died as they had really good kits, and the best assembly manuals. I built my first test instrument with a Heathkit kit. An !M-18 VTVM (vacuum tube voltmeter).
