This reminds me of when I was younger, along with one of my friends, we coined the term "audiophile" as an adjective that simply meant the largest / most expensive or most ridiculous version of something.
It looks to me more Richard Neutra than Mad Men, it's a cool style definitely. Check out the "Kaufmann House" in Palm Springs:

for some reason the starkness actually helps "hide" large hifi equipment as long as it's styled thoughtfully as well. Maybe not hide, but at least it looks *planted* like it belongs (as opposed to your typical HT setup pegged around the typical TV room/den.)
