Audacity is a really powerful tool (for freeware) that you can use to produce some nice stuff to do this with.

NCH has a tone generator that is considerably more simple than audacity but can't do nearly as much. However, it may be just what you need.

Hope this helps.
EDIT: I had all the cables with me, as most of them came with my Computer speakers. I used a Sound Card stereo jack (3.5mm I think) to 2 RCA (Left/Right) and then 2 RCA cables to go into my AV receiver. It also helped to have a laptop I had a USB sound card as well, because I do a bit of oscillator experiments and blowing up my lappy's built in sound is out of the question. But you should be fine just outputting signal from yours.

This is maybe OT, but I recorded this from a CD by Infected Mushroom, I think it was Vicious Delicious track 4.
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
Here's a huge list of ultimate subwoofer demo tracks (including LOTR):

Low Bass CDs
Here is a list of CDs with low bass which has been measured with lab instruments:
http://www.provide.net/~djcarlst/basscds.htm
There are some music CDs, but most are most are Electro/Techno/Trance? CDs ....
P.S. It looks like the SVS list has a lower frequency limit of 10 Hz. The list from SMWTMS goes lower, if you need to !
Good luck !
