Thank you for providing some background. So far, the most helpful presentation I have found regarding the Zobel Network is found in Self's book. However, his examples on the topic do not explicitly address the PCB design goals. Unfortunately, examples/experiments to demonstrate the tradeoffs with placement have proven difficult to obtain.
Anyway, I appreciate your help and the slides and links provided by marce. Between these, and the National application notes, I have pretty much settled on a layout that allows for experimentation.
Also, not sure what level of filtering background you are looking for but Karu's "Signals and Systems Made Ridiculously Simple" is a helpful introduction before diving into something like Lathi's "Linear Systems and Signals".
