I must have missed Ranmaus' second reply somehow, #16 response. That is the direction that makes most sense to me, though I admit to being pretty over me head when it comes to designing something like this.
I did a little experiment with a transformer rig found here and I can say it was a pretty big help, though incredibly, still didn't do much for my TV. That thing must put out a really terrible signal, and I'm a little annoyed there's no other way besides HDMI to output audio.
So I guess I'm back to some kind of preamp that can cut or balance the other devices.
