JLH Ripple Eater

Re the schematic that Jon has shown.
If the Current Limiter section is bypassed, and provided that the boards are supplied directly from 78/79xx regulators, or LM317/337 regulators,
the 2 x 2,200uF 10V low ESR electros may be increased to 2 x 4,700uF 0V low ESR types for slightly improved results with higher current draw equipment.
I am using non current limited boards of both polarities,(earlier dual polarity single PCB design) in conjunction with a simple LM 317/LM337 +-15.5V outboard supply, to supply a complete Musical Fidelity X-DAC V3.
This design will work as low as 5V at slightly reduced efficiency, and provided certain component ratings are upgraded, and the current limiter is in circuit,
they have been used by another diyAudio member to supply the front end of a Class AB amplifier using +-55V rails.

I've been reading various threads on the JLH ripple eater... seems interesting. Anyone know where to find the 'double versions' (with + & - regulation on 1 board)???

Also, wondering about the double R8 in the schematic. Anyone???

Hi Ray,

As Greg says, JLH made a small oversight and marked R7 (33R) as R8. R8 is still there, too (120K). We don't have two x R8 on our board or BOM. The schema is slightly modded version of that published in the original ETI article.

All details are at here

There is artwork out there for single-sided, double-polarity boards if you want to etch your own. Try asking at Rock Grotto. These latest boards are the second-generation of the single version. Double-sided, gold-flashed, colour solder mask etc. Good for dual-mono applications, and laid out such that fat 4700uF caps can be mounted horizontally to reduce stacking height.

For those of you interested in this little pcb, here are a few pictures of the previous version that was created. The boards below are single-sided only, and not to the same spec as indicated in Jon's posts. Also as mentioned, the two larger caps (2200uF in this case can now be laid down, to reduce stacked height. The pcb can be used for both +ve and -ve rail, as shown.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

And a pair in action below, top right, stacked.

Again, I'll mention that the boards shown are not the ones that will be sent out, but are a previous version. The new version has been made (courtesy of Jon's double sided etching skills) and tested out in circuit.

Hi Jon, I looked but couldnt find any artwork posted?

Please count me in for 4 boards.
Thanks ! ;)
