Risk,

What risk? You wouldn't belive it if it told y'all.

In Greece, I scaled the walls of the Acropolis one night by climbing up the hi-tension wires. I had to climb back down, that was the beach. No lights as it was under repair.

A few nights later I got talking in a bar with a chap and after a few more drinks he agreed to do it also. Until we got there then he got very tactful once he saw what I'd done. Ya know, what you did was great, and there has to be a way that old people get up there...let's see if we can do that first?

After a few grumbling words he talked me into it and we worked our way around to some steps that went up to the main gate there, we found the gate slightly ajar...so we walked in, spent a few hours walking around and looking at Athens below. It was quite the spectacular view and venue...I think we even brought some beer in a nap sack and were sitting sipping and enjoying our conversation....

Then someone shouted at us and started coming towards us.... it was two of them saying stuff ... it WAS all GREEK to us. My bud and I make a quick plan...we got a couple of big rocks just in case and agreed that we'd have to attack cross wise if they attacked us.

We also, didn't want to play the part of the ugly Americans so he'd speak to them in French and I'd speak to them in German. They got to about 7 meters and stopped and we answered their questions with the languages we agreed to, French & German. We complemented them on the beautiful fortress and shrine the Athenians made so long ago.

They escorted us out the way we came from a slight distance and we exchanged pleasantries. They warned us about something and we heard it on the way back down the steps...F-ing wild dogs circling around us on way down...We kept the rocks...it was strange the dogs, like a swirling pack with growls and and such.

The next day or two we found out how lucky we really were... I guess there had been a lot of problems there, people being robbed, mugged, attacked by the dogs etc...some suggested unreported deaths or two, but would make the press or news because that would scare away the tourists.

The following night we hooked up with some gals and saw the Sultans of Swing playing at a local pub.

Cheers,

Post Script - Now I recall how or why we were discovered in the first place. I stepped into a pit and fell into it. (it was a dark night after all). I yelled for help and eventually I could reach for an arm and we pulled me out of the thing.

We were on the side farthest from the main gate... and ended up sitting and recovering on a boulder or carving overlooking the Athens from that area. Then, he saw on of the guards there and he vanished for a bit, but came back with another. We were both far from sober, our prior military training paid off, even though we were both PFCs (Poor F***ing Civilians) now.

The studio engineer told me what a fool and what a waste of money that composer had just done. He's telling that to these professional musician's who just read the music and play. It won't make any difference in how it sounds.

Music is the most abstract from the arts. It speaks different to different people, it speaks different to the same person at different moments.
Interpretation is a key element in the chain and at multiple points, think of it.
First inside the brain of the composer, how he/she transforms an event or idea into the music form, then how he formulates his idea into the abc. How much he puts on the score.
Then how the conductor is reading it, what he communicates to the musicians/singers, are the musicians inspired, do they get into or just on the surface?
Same with the listener.

Take Mahler for example. Very sensitive mind, fragile ideas, a unique idiosyncratic outcome. He insisted on very detailed score.
Listen to his works from various conductors. Night and day. From unlistenable to uplifting, same composition.

You're the only person that didn't make me hungry when mentioning Thai and/or French food (the way you did).
Why (I'm not sure to have understood you) ?
Do you disagree ?
What I wanted to say is most of the French food (in his best) is a complex chemical process elaborated by chiefs in order to create new tastes, new perfumes by a subtil and precise mix of ingredients and their modification by the time, the way they are cook together or separately and their combination in your dish that allow-you to play with several of those "chords".
Thai food is absolutely different in his spirit. They play often with the time each savour take to be developed in your mouth. those perfumes comes one after the other, like a perfume change with time on your skin. Long time after you have leave the table, you will have sparks of tastes that will still explode in your mouth.

That's exactly what they wanted you to think, management, don't you luvum?

Yes it's what they like. And, in doing so, got a big raise. :)

Enough times and they started asking me to apply for higher management positions. I did some interviews. Having earned my Good ol' Boy badge, it was prewired for me.

It would have been a significant career change. That's about the time I decided to leave.

Was that from a near by hill? A winding road goes up there with great views. I might know where you were.

Hindi word that (like many others) the British have taken for their own. Means 'proper' or 'good' in English. As my wife is British Indian I use it more often these days forgetting it's not more widely used.

I have found a download of the full 10CD set for £9, so will take a risk anyway. Sony remastered the Walton 2 years ago so may get that as well.
