It's not "simple as possible." But it's not horribly complex or challenging, either. The big problem will be finding that output transformer- if you substitute a different one, all that fancy compensation circuitry will have to be changed out, a very non-trivial task for a beginner. The second biggest problem will be duplicating the layout of the original so that stray capacitances and inductances don't upset that compensation.
If you want something simpler, clone a Mullard 5-20 or an Eico HF87.

I'm 95% complete on a Mullard 5-20, it is a more straightforward design than the one you are considering.
For me as a beginner I think it was a good choice. It's an old circuit & there's stacks of information available in books & on the web. Just refer to it by name & experts abound.
