The ISO remastering tutorial https://docs.google.com/document/d/1iLR4gp_cxw8UMqfiPoOa7ZabnEDyVT8ku17CYs_hI1A/edit in combination with rebuilt kernel following https://www.debian.org/releases/etch/hppa/ch08s06.html.en yielded this image http://personal.educity.cz/Mint-17-Mate-32bit_Remaster.iso The only change in the recompiled kernel is that added condition based on https://dev-nell.com/rpmb-emmc-errors-under-linux.html

It boots from USB on my machine. I did not test the installation. There are a few symbolic links broken in the image, but it is simple to fix. If the liveUSB with this image works ok on your netbook giving you access to the eMMC, try to install. If the install fails, I will give you instructions how to fix it. Or I could regenerate the ISO in January, leaving now for mountains.

I use Intel NUC on 19" rack shelf which also holds the power supply,an ARX usb to xlr converter with volume control, and a usb hub.
This runs into DBX crossover,BBS equaliser, and 2x3 amplifiers.
All controlled through a touchscreen in portrait mode.
The NUC runs Windows 8.1.1.
Program is Ultimate Jukebox.
The biggest pain in the butt is that all the different programs have terrible shuffle mode which always repeats the same songs or artists, just adding a few new ones each time.

I do not see any solution in that thread. I gave you a google-translated link to a discussion where the guy clearly answers my question with "I remastered an image with the patched kernel and it works OK".

So I remastered the image with the patched kernel too and posted it for you to download. If that image does not boot, try to enable legacy bios boot on your notebook. It booted fine on my PC with EFI disabled/legacy boot enabled.

That is all I can do here. I will delete the image tomorrow morning.

just doing the unetbootin. i can see that it is a 32 bit image iso. Does that mean you think 32 bit has greater chance to work on my system? - if so - i am ok with it. but I think I cannot boot 32 bit in UEFI mode, only in legacy mode, right? so you think I should try to install the system in legacy mode right?

I was remastering the image on a 32bit system, compiling thus 32bit kernel. You will gain nothing by running 64bit system on your netbook anyways and sometimes binary-only packages (adobe flash plugin) are available in 32bit only.

but I think I cannot boot 32 bit in UEFI mode, only in legacy mode, right? so you think I should try to install the system in legacy mode right?

Of course, UEFI booting requires a completely different boot process. I always get rid of EFI/UEFI booting, it brings no advantage to me, just problems.

Hold on with the updates. You do not want to have the modified kernel removed by a new version. If you do, your machine will not boot anymore again - the patch is not in upstream (i.e. official kernel tree) yet.

For now you can run updates manually, only selecting packages. I will let you know how to so called "pin" the kernel package to tell the apt system not touch it.
