I have found the muffle core of a public lighting that looks exactly like EI transformer core, only the middle pillar is a 3mm shorter than two side pillars. If i would rewind it into a transformer i would make it E/I/E/I/E/I/E alternating side of each layer one after other, but my question is-is it worth trying, what would be the result? Would it be reliable transformer or something that might work,BUT... ? Here are some pictures...

Hi,
It would work if you rotated every other layer so there is no air gap.
It would saturate first at the point of the air channels, effectively
meaning you have less iron in the core than it would first appear.
Those air channels would not cause inefficiency, it will work.
