Frugly, hahahah
A nice family it is Zen....
Would it be possible to make a Iron Pumpkin balanced version, with a remote control?
I'm a lazy bastard, I know.
Your Iron Pumpkin is tempting for me because I still want to build a balanced pre-amp to listen to my various balanced Power Amps.
Some digital thing then has to replace the rotary switch.
Which will be pretty complicated for me, cause I'm not so into designing things in the digital domain.
Maybe another member here, who has the knowledge, can design something?
Or point me in a certain direction, or to datasheets of controller IC's which can do the trick?

completely doable , more than possible , even planned for future
however , have some amps to finish (big gargantuan Babelfish Aleph X , with servo and variable THD spectra , commissioned by one Fella from Poland) , then arriving Papa's Koan No. Zillion , then long time dreamed LR EQ RIAA stage
maybe I'll beg some of my friends , having official education in electronics ..... I'm in situation of starting from scratch in every new area which I already didn't scratched before (one thing is repairing already made logic circuits , completely other designing from zero , mainly because I'm not familiar with all approaches possible )
ok , to put it shortly ,I believe I'll have remote thingy finished in 6 months or so
it'll be trivial to make it , now when main thingy is done

Dear ZM,
I was referring to (you know my level of competence) the diamond buffer and the resistor between input and ground. Looks to be 23k (or so).
Does this set the input impedance?
Could it be made higher?
Thanks,
Rick , sorry for not seeing your post sooner
considering that this diamond buffer is made with BJTs , going to higher value of input gnd reference will result in more slide (lesser stability) of output offset
base current , that's it
however , I'm making some steps in direction of mosfet based Diamond buffer , which will address exactly that issue ; will not work nor sound better than this one , but will have greater input impedance
Several ordered SE Iron Turtle/Pumpkin finished and waiting just few eenytiny bitsies to arrive ( flat cable connectors and such) , impatient to be sent abroad
while waiting , I'm working on Papaturtle , one channel already wired

it is PITA ..... zillion of tiny wires , needing cleaning of enamel and tinning , taking care of numbers and position
but .... it's not just relaxing , it's deeply enjoyable
How do you clean the enamel?
I take an aspirine (acetylsalicylic acid) and push the enamel wire and the soldering iron together on the aspirine and the enamel comes of.
Old trick
The fumes coming of, hurts your eyes, so not a healthy way.
define length, fold/make loop , cut rest ,hook ,twist, unhook , grip wire with forceps (thermo-tube on jaws , so easy on wire) , brush end with sandpaper
then calophone and solder bath ( small well in piece of teflon)
tried eons ago with aspirine , hate fumes and lack of consistence ; it works with some enamels, not with others
calophone , teflon solder bath (on box of matches),hook , forceps and sandpaper visible on second pic
my constant green is on this side of (phone) camera

try Kolophonium - for violine bow strings
ancient thingie , used with solder in time when solder didn't had filler
also first solder with filler had that thingie inside
also used 'till few decades ago , plumbing - melt , pour in lead tube , wait to cool off , bend the tube , heat tube , pour it out for later use
so , handy cleaner for soldering tasks
useful links , also showing few more interesting relations .....
