The USSR novals should make for a very snug fit though.

Yeah. But if there's play in the sockets, there will always be some play after the tube's inserted.

Still think I'll have some cork gaskets made in order to take up the play of the pins. I'll let you know when I do if you'd like to try them.

The sockets I bought with the tubes look like the one on the bottom left in the photo.
