Or is this psychoacoustics, where you perceive the 8Hz note when it is not actually there at all?

Does it matter? Organ builders have been doing this for hundreds of years. And did somebody say that a large cathedral is a linear medium?

Well it does to me with a degree in Electronics and a PhD in physics. If I don't understand something, I want to know what is actually happening. Does it matter -yes. And organ builders doing it for hundreds of years is not a good explanation.
