But be certain that you replace the NTE937M with a unity gain stable op amp , because your circuit is a voltage follower (gain of 1 ).

A new LF356N solved the problem, which goes to show, don't count on the cross reference! Thanks to everyone for all the help, especially tube_dude for pointing out that the NTE was not stable at unity gain.
