If you check the specs, most hook-up wire is good to 600v, and the wire used for mains cable (in Europe) is often good for 900v - 1000v.
Do check the specs for yourself!
What I have done in the past is to buy sleeving and thread the HV cable through that as an extra safety precaution. Avoid PTFE sleeve as it's a bit stiff.

Personally, I have come to hate them MIL plugs, although they should be OK for dry environments....( beleive me- I have long time bad experiences...)
Cannons and Winchesters etc are hard to get and expensive,--

Check out the Harting or ( Phoenix ) series HAN or STAF, - all designed for line voltage use and pin counts from 2 and upwards,..
excellent and reliable connectors..
available in Europe from Farnell, --among others...........
