Yes perry with the last transistors I had in the board it powered up drew 5amps of current. It had a clean audio signal. I don't like putting new transistors in an amplifier until I'm sure I have cleared up the issues. This is why I save old ones. I agree with you about the output transistors and reliability. I would rather spend the 10 dollars and have a reliable amplifier.

No, I gave the driver board components another look, and have not put new output transistors in curcuit to see if that changes the current.

If you drive a strong sine wave into the amp, do you see drive signals at the output gates?

So I found a 10ohm gate was out of tolerance. Badly. And I replaced it and all the output transistors. Now the amplifier starts at normal current and goes right into protection, after the relay engages.

Do you see DC on the output filter inductors as the amp tries to power up?

Very little the amplifier runs and oscillates. It's when I attempt to add a input signal.it jumps on nto protection. It's intermittent now it's back straight to protection. Something is failing, has .019vdc at the inductor

Solder a 10k resistor between pins 1 and 2 of the TL072. Does that allow it to produce a drive signal?

Got it powered up. No rectifiers. Still same result with the resistor.

Sorry didn't see your post. In curcuit and with the rectifiers it pulls the supply down to 9v and draws about 5.2amos of current.
