Hey,
Does anyone compare those two? Illumina 66 and CNO MKII both by troles.
I want a small 2 way floorstand with good drivers and those seems to be fit.

I really like the scanspeak drivers and read a lot of good comment on the Illumina 66.

I listen to rock, rap, indie, blues and jazz.
I have SVS SB2000 subwoofer (12" 500RMS sealed)

Right now I'm in a small room but in few months im moving to small apartment.

Seems by troles review that the illumina 66 is better.

Why do you advice me to go with?

Thanks:D

Itamar.

I saw it and it seems very nice but I really like the combination of the illuminator tweeters and mid range.
I have an active sub which can handle the lows good, it is SVS SB2000 if you familiar with.

I'm pretty sure I will purchase the Illumina 66

Thanks!

I built the 66 and think it is a great speaker but does need a sub for really low notes.
If I were starting from scratch today I would build the new Ekta not that it goes lower but having the miss dealt with a dedicated midrange driver takes a lot of strain off the bass mid.

I totaly agree, I didn't hear them but I can totally imagine what lack of low in the 66 but I really like the combination of the illuminator tweeters and mids, If I go 3way with this It would cost much more.
I like the 3way approach too, it has good clarity of stage and differnts musical instruments, but better drivers with 2way just sound better in the highs / high-mid (If the cross is good and there is an active sub)

I think even when using 3 way like the ekta; if you like the 80HZ minus you need a sub to *feel* those HZ.

You make confoused

I didn't realize what tweeter the EKTA MKII uses. I want better components.

I think to stretch the budget and go for the ELLAM FLEX 3W by Troels.

I wonder if this 60 liter 3 way would fit small room?

By the instructions of the ELLAM 3W it seems to have 2 ports, one front and one in upperback between the crossover box. I didn't see desgin like this before, does it mean that it front and rear ported?

Read Troels' text againregarding that tweeter choice and don't pay any attention to the price. If someone with his expertize says it's the best match I would follow it. The 12MU is one of the best drivers around so if that tweeter works great than I would consider it.

Yes, but dont forget I have built some of his designs

I have built some of his designs as well but now that I have begun designing my own speakers, I found out that I have disagreed with a lot of his own design philosophies. And lately I think his opinions have been influenced by some of his sponsors. But I don't blame him, on the other hands it may actually be good, real good if I may say so, since it allows him to design a lot of speakers for the DIY communities. I just hope some of his recent comments reflect more of the actual facts.

Can I tempt you into a 4-way by showing speaker porn from Finland?

I have built a speaker with side-side 15" woofers plus counter-force cabinet bracing which has almost zero vibration! Dual 12" woofers would match your design. Sealed woofers + DSP require modest cabinet volume, and having full range front speakers would allow you to put the subwoofers along the rear room wall for equalization.

You might get ideas from: Taipuu Speakers in Finland builds a ScanSpeak 4-way design which showcases solid wood. Both a DSP and a passive crossover version are available. Unusual upper-lower placement of side-side 30 cm Scan-Speak woofers. Measurements at:

..that's actually one of the better dome tweeters available.

-very low mass (for its Sd), excellent non-linear distortion (..though largely because of its truncated lower freq. response).

Still, It's not exactly my favorite because of of it's edge damping (surround) - which results in a very clean clear image(s) but upper freq. hall sound/decay is a bit "abreviated" IMO. (..and depth is very marginally abreviated as well when compared to the best domes.) I'd imagine however that most of that would "go-away" (negatives removed) with a higher crossover freq. - and this (Ekta MkII) design does that.

Thanks for all comments.

I kinda crush on the Ellam Flex 3W
I very like the ring radiator tweeter.
Troels mentioned that the Ellam Flex 3W is one of the speakers he likes most and I think if I have the extra bucks for the Ellam it would worth it.

Does the Ellam Flex 3W will be big for 15 cubic meters room?
In the next year I will move to 20 cubic meters living room

The Seas Bifrost is 2-Way, I changed my mind to good 3-Way.
I will check the Taipuu 3-Way.

Hi guys!
I need help to choose a project, I got confused

I have 8-8.2 feet (15 cubic meters room) with carpet in listening postion
I have a SVS SB2000 subwoofer which I really like and think to add another one.
Listen to rock, indie, blues, jazz, rap

Some advice me to do good 2 way like the Zaph ZRT, Troles Illumina 66 & Seas bifrost
Others advice me to go with 3 way like the Ekta MK II / Ellam Flex and more

I considering 2 subwoofer, because I really like how it sounds - I listened to 3 Way floorstand + 2 woofers and really like the stereo effect of the sub, sounds more balanced
if you do it right.

In about a year I will move into bigger apartment with 10 feet living room.

Please help me understand what I really need.

Which way should I go? 2 / 3?

Thanks!
