The ground on the input jacks likely signifies the chassis ground. The circuit will be connected to the chassis at only one point,near the input jacks. This is to control ground currents that may make noise,etc.

I have a Heathkit W7M (it has only one ground point) and this is what the construction manual says.
When wired according to instructions, there is only one ground connection to the amplifier. Any other point of contact between chassis and ground wiring will result in a “ground loop”. And will definitely raise the hum level of the amplifier.
