Bas Horneman said:Definately build one yourself!!! There are a lot of great subwoofer builds out there. Getting it to look good is usually the challenge. Getting it to sound as good or better is the easier bit. There are classD subwoofer amplifier units that you can buy. (Probably the same as B&W are using)
At those big brand names you are paying for the name/marketing etc.
There is often much more to it than that.
Good engineering and experience is a big chunk.

I see the Velodyne DD-15 has 1250 watts RMS(3000 Peak) Watt....
How do they measure a 1250Watt? How does any manufacture measure the Watt of a speaker unit, do they all use RMS and is this the standaard?
More often than not, it is the voicecoil melting power rating.
Thanks to someone, I dont remember who, I now know I need a sub because I now know how to make it ... at the same time I wont need an 18" midwoofer, but can do with 15"
Ofcourse I wont go to exstremes like in the picture, but maybe around 6 drivers pr side ... I reckon a total of cheaper12 x 10" or 12" will do the job nicely

I seriously doubt my design will be duplicated in the next 10 years
