Halogen lighting transformers for a Gainclone?

Thanks for the replies people, they certainly cleared up some confusions I had.

For now I think I'll go for the toroidal transformers, since they'll be the fastest to get my hands on, but for future expriments I'll definitelly look into halogen transformers again.
