OK- I'm a bit late in replying as I had lost track of this thread.

Andrew, who is Stanley Baxter? A TV comedian, perhaps?

Translation:

A famous Scottish comedian who had a TV series.
One skit I particularly liked was the broad Scots of Parliamo Glasgow where they deliberately strung words/sentences together in the typical Glasgow fashion and put up a subtitle with these enormously long "words" running to 30 to 40 letters and below an English translation.
Then Stanley would in his best proper English read back the translation. Humorous is an understatement.

BTW,
slang for Glasgow is Glesga. But you have to hear a Glaswegian saying it to understand, he/she would be a wegi (weegy).
