And here we share our wife walked into the room asking what we changed that made this improvement to the sound she is hearing.
One of the Linear Audio editorials described how the quality of sound changed significantly when he moved slightly, or if another person moved in the room.
$20,000 will buy about 10 years of Met Opera subscriptions in a box for two people.
Oh no, not the old move your ears trick? One of the Linear Audio editorials described how the quality of sound changed significantly when he moved slightly, or if another person moved in the room.
With 2dB improvement we can make a headphone amplifier a power amplifier by connecting few power cables in series.
Well, given the price of theses "special" cables, that might end up being a costly transformation!
I once saw a video of a cable demonstration like that. It was obvious that the volume was turned up for the better cable and the trick had the audience very impressed with the great improvement in sound quality. 2dB is easily enough to do it.
However, that doesn't mean that power cables can never make an audible difference. To the extent they function as HF power filters, for example, they might do something good in some situations. A good power conditioner might make more sense to use if that were the case.
Even without trickery, some presentations for audiophile equipment merely use superlative language without any specific meaning to describe product benefits and audiences still seem to love it. There appears to be more than one problem and the bigger problem may be that some people really want to believe there are some mystical secrets to better sound out there that they can discover at exclusive audiophile meetings. If not cables it might be something else. It may be a case of the cable guys competing for sales that might go to parallel ground system guys instead.
A funny thing is that genuine listening pleasure may result from such expenditures. If the owners were observed in MRI scanners, it could be that the pleasure centers in the brain would be seen to light up more when the 'special' cable is used.

Well, I guess there's no problem making a bad cable, especially when high currents run through it ?
But, as already been mentioned, how is it possible that 2 meters of cable can make wonders when we got maybe 100km powercables in the sky, with transformers, motors, switched supplys etc.
No way...
Figge

Quite probably. Expensive placebo though - unless it's the cash that is the placebo?
Hello,
Personally I believe that the Los Angeles and Orange County Audiophile Society's Bob Levi should be embarrassed and ashamed of himself. Going after someone for telling the truth is just so very wrong. Does not matter if you don't want to hear it, you have no right to suppress others voices, and kicking out a member for daring to speak out about fraud is horrible.

Perhaps vested, but who are we to speculate?conflicts of interest
Could be. But as Jack notes, the cost of some of this gear could by you whole lot of concert tickets. Wouldn't that make the pleasure centers even more happy?A funny thing is that genuine listening pleasure may result from such expenditures. Cal: Agreed, just pointing out that this is not perhaps your normal chair of your normal audio society. Read the journals of the Boston audio society from the 70s and you get the feeling of a group of guys geeking out together.
Reading this Instead of a new way, maybe a new guy? - Audiophile Review you get the idea that LOACAS is an entirely different beast.

I'm sure that comment is USA centric, concert capital of the world. Anyone else has no such luck.
Speak for yourself. Plenty of venues in UK. Albeit for the best gigs you have to ship youself to the cess pool that is london.
Seems like there's probably more to this story between Mark/Bob than what's written.
Also, the guy running the 2db cable scam should be called out by name. But maybe I missed it?
I don't see the point in highlighting an event like this, and then giving the perpetrator a pass.
Dave.
