Hi guys, am bringing this thread to life again.
I've just come to own an old and long unused Grace G-707 (unsure Mk1 or 2). Looks like Mk 1 from 1979.

There was some cleaning up and the first thing that had to be restored was the arm lifter.
The arm lift mechanism seems architecturally different from
simonl8353's lifter. The turning shaft have a O ring on one side.

I cleaned the thing up and re-greased it all. Worked great..BUT?
it wouldn't stay in the up position permanently. It'll just gradually slide down. Out with everything again and I deduced the O ring was the likely culprit. A trip to a specialist O ring dealer got me one for peanuts. Got another spare just in case and for future reference. I'm glad I can easily buy another dozen with ease if I needed it all.
Out with the old and in with the new O ring, a tiny re-lube and Voila.. like new. I think its still a tight fit and I've to release the lever all the way down and let the arm drop by its own delay. Its not a big issue to me here. I'm giving it some time to settle in.
I think the Rega lifter performs a little better despite architecturally a little more crude compared to this Japanese part.
