here I go reviving a dead thread :)

I just made a set of boxes using some mdf i had lying around, each box is 16.5 litres before any drivers ports etc. if i where to put both the fr125 and wr125 in these boxes in the 1.5 way, would that leave enough room for a port, box volume wise ? or would I best to leave them sealed. If i can use my 2" flared port, what lenth would you guys sudgest ? trying to get the lowest tunning i can. thanks

I'd probably just slap them together on opposite faces and use them out into the room a little bit. Do a nice 'lil bipole, and install an aperiodic vent to damp the impedance spike a 'lil bit.

@ badman: I think his cabinets are already done.
don't know.
Usually bass boost is not needed with these drivers,
epecially when using a subwoofer ...

You can use the natural rolloff of a sealed cab.

If fs is equal of wr125 and fr125 you can put them in
series and bypass the wr125 with a capacitor or RC
at higher frequencies.
This kind of compensation maybe makes more sense, because
the FR125 lacks SPL above 2..3Khz especially off axis.

When doing this, mounting one over the other on the same
baffle seems better ...

Although slapping them with magnets together gives impulse
compensation, which is interesting too.

you got it, ive got a pair of fr125s and wr125s which i want run in a 1.5 way. reason being, my tempest completly overpowers the fr125s when the volumes start to get a little higher, and i already have the wr125s so i figure i could use the spl.

I was thinking bipole origionaly, unfortunatly i cant pull them very far from the walls so 1.5 way it is.

assuming I already cut the holes for the ports, would 5" length be decent ? that should give me a tunning of just over 50hz correct ?

I have a pair of 2" foam port plugs I got with a pair of energy speakers, I could use those to stuff em if things get too boomy ?

Ideally id like to be able to turn the sub off for music, and on for movies

Did some simulations with WinISD.

Sealed Box of 16,5 liters stuffed with wool, polyester
wadding or similar seems OK.

When porting, use a resistive porting like badman
suggested. But with resistive port upper bass may
get too dull.
Maybe try your stuffed tubes, but keep the option of
sealing them completely.

Bass reflex (unstuffed tubes) makes no sense
with this driver.

Nominal fr of WR125 and FR125 should be the same...
try to mate drivers of equal fr for each box (tolerances ...)

Check out:
1) Parallel 1.5 way with series inductor in front of WR125

2 )WR125 and FR125 in series. WR125 paralleled with
capacitor or RC.
This option leaves you very much range to adjust (boost) the
treble, because impedance decreases with frequency driving
more current through the FR.
Option 2) is a 1.5 way too, but with higher crossover
frequency and far more play in boosting treble, which
is desirable in most listening situations with this
driver.

The series variant will play 6dB lower with same input voltage,
but power efficiency is the same as paralleled, because current
is only 1/4.

If you use an active high pass, both variants should not
have any problems with being overpowered, even if your
sub is a "monster", which i don'know.

Sealed Box will have better mechanical headroom
(less excursion for the drivers) than aperiodic box,
when driven without highpass.

My guess is Variant 2) in a sealed box ...

I use a similar trick in this one

www.dipol-audio.de

it uses 6 x FR125S so i know the driver
rather good, but Your application is different,
we'll see !

Check out and let us know Your experiences ...

Cheers
