F5 power amplifier

it s a push pull, so i t s rather
2.6 X 2.6 X SQR(2) X 2 = 19 W peak = 8.5 W rms at 2 ohm load

F5's bias is 1.3A, so max class A current is 2.6A(peak)
Power equals squared current times RLoad => 2.6A x 2.6A x 2 Ohms = 13.52 W peak = 9.55 W rms = 6.76 W avg
For sine wave the following stands:
RMS = peak x 0.707
AVG = peak / 2
That's class A calculation.

Since F5 is a push-pull amp it can leave the class A and contiue operating in class AB, limited by PSU voltage/current and Pd of output devices (100W @ 2 Ohms is theoreticaly deduced figure, reality is somewhat shorter of that).

Every 2-3 pages someone new joins in and this discussion starts all over again.
New guys, please read the thread or at least Nelson's paper on F5 before you start to illuminate the others.

Oh, I think your question is ok, considering how long a thread it is
Its a simple answer
Problem is, as you can see, it starts a long debate

I dont know
But given the nature of your question, I think it might be wiser to choose a standard F5
At least fore a start
See how it works out, and then take it from there
Fore balanced F5 monos you will need 2x F5 stereo anyway
In which case I think I would prefer 2x stereo F5, through a digtal XO/EQ
Or maybe F5 fore the top, and a monster classD fore your double Alpha15 woofers, through a digtal dsp
I wont advertise the new Hypex dsp 2way plateamp here, but it would be a much cheaper option fore your woofers, with lots of options
May not belong here, but its the best way I know how to answer your question

Hi Tinitus ,

I have a Beringer DCX2946.
I go on the variant:
Supravox 65 - directly to F5;
2xEminence Alpha 15 : DCX2946 - vertical biamping F5.
If not to like, to go on an Eminence Alpha 15 with Aleph5 mono block, which has 90 watts per 4 ohm.

Thank you very much and ...Merry Christmas!

Hey! I recognise those speakers.......:D

Seems I better drill some more holes in my new heatsinks, just in case :D
A monster power buffer is tempting, connected to a high gain tube pre :rolleyes:

Just a quick note
I plan to go the dsp route with GroundSound, and get on the train, so to speak
But I will not waste huge amounts of classA power on 15-18" woofers
I guess I will have about 500watt fore those, to deal with EQ

I'm befuddled.

I have 66 ohms between each rail and output terminal. The output transistors are off the board and not wired in. The only reason for this reading would be if the input FETs were acting as a dead short (so the path is basically through the feedback resistors)

Is this normal? I would not want to fire it up and set my house on fire... I have not yet powered it up - power supplies are done and ready to go...
