IMO the 4 Euro ES9023 performs way better than it should. Maybe not high end but reasonably close After second thoughts: syklab reported it sounds better than his Oppo and W4S DAC2. That is not budget class.
The hard thing will be to choose a better chip than ES9023 if I want to do a new DAC project.

Yes, but the ES9023 handles signals up to 24/192.
If you wanna go further, you can try PCM5102 (same league, but no Sabre technology )
Thanks for the answer Massimo. So, your saying that it's okay but cannot take advantage of 384khz bit stream of ExaU2I functionality. I have to look for another I2S source.
DIYAudio Member GuidoR showed some time ago how to extract I2S signals from the HiFace. He posted many detailed pics too. You can do a quick search. I'm travelling right now and I have little time left on train's wi-fi.
