They look really kewel!

Actually, these red metal tubes were intended to have a very long service life: 10,000 hours guaranteed. The useage was for "mission critical" applications where you couldn't afford to have tubes poof on you. RCA mentions their suitability for medical equipment specifically. Instrumentation amplifiers for data acquisition systems for automation was another.

Besides,they look really kewel.
