I'm looking at a couple pairs of these for my car, and for the most part for the price, they seem to be a nice little driver. But there is a 5db dip a little past 1k going up to about 3k, and I was wondering if theres a simple crossover that can correct it and flatten it out a bit. Any ideas or suggestions?

That's the idea, you can easily afford to fry a pair so get 2 in case that happens when you remove the "crossover" they come with. These must be the newer Audax drivers that are manufactured in China, there's no way a French made Audax would sell for such a low price. This being said there's probably no difference in quality.
I'll send you are pair of these if you want them. 4 ohm, 12 db hi & lo at 2600 Hz - that would help smooth out the woofer where it starts to get ragged, and offer better protection for the tweeter than the single cap. 5.5" x 2" X 1" - I've soldered leads onto them. You'd have to mount them somewhere, but hey that's part of the fun of it.
