Mean air pressure at sea level is 29.921 inches mercury. Describe it how you will, you can't pull any more vacuum than that. Like I said, pulling 26-27 inches too quickly will cause an unimpregnated trans to blow all over the inside of the vessel. Take it down slowly.

It's just closer. It all has to do with the scale of the units. Compare an inch of mercury with a torr.
1 inch of mercury is around 25 torr. And there are 25000 micron of vacuum in an inch or mercury.
I'm just used to ultra high vacuum systems which is .000000001 torr usually.
But ya I know it wouldn't be very practical for impregnation applications.

Poinz,
I'm pondering this a bit. How big is your air compressor? (I'm wondering if mine would work, I'm not going to buy a new compressor for this How big is your crock pot container? I'm assuming one of the smaller round ones, not a big 5-6 Quart oval. Do you have to do it all in one shot (rather than letting the compressor refill) because otherwise it leaks enough to mess it up? Endbells off or on? Why not put an enclosed transformer in a can, do they otherwise fill up the pot?
just trying to picture it,
