My son wants to build a speaker driver for a physics project.
I have built many speaker systems over the years. But I have never built a driver.
Anyone done this - whether as an experiment or more seriously?
Any basic parameters such as coil turns, wire gauge, and appropriate magnets?
Any help appreciated.

Do a search for a post by a person named Vikash. He had a webpage where he tried this.
I posted a spreadsheet in that thread that can be used for driver design. It transforms turns of wire, mass, etc into T/S parameters... It doesn't do the magnetic portion though, You need to use a program like FEMM to model the magnetic system, then you can Enter B (gap magnetic flux) into the spreadsheet.

Bl is B*l, Flux*length of wire in the field. More valid for achieving a correct damping is B*m, m=mass of copper in the field, compared to the whole moving mass.
