Every now and again you can find some good deals on SS amps that are pretty good - classics from the '70's or 80's - but finding a good deal on tube gear is not easy - save your spare change for a few years.
Bang for the buck wise - check into the Pass threads about a DIY Pass clone of your choosing. We are talking class A amps here - for class AB there are a buncha choices but I'm getting the impression that building an amp from scratch is not on your agenda (I don't mean that in a bad way so please take no offense).
