Has anybody tried building one using passive noise cancellation? Here is one I'm experimenting with. All I need to finish is attenuating the signal to the proper level.

There will be no noise cancelling such a way; instead you will get resonances of cavities inside of the body. Noise cancelling works when rear tiny holes are open to noises coming from around the mike, causing pressure - gradient sensitivity.

Precisely why the rear of the element is exposed to ambient noise instead of the inside of the case. That case was specifically chosen because of the cutaway on the top rear of the case exposing the element to ambient noise.
