Hi everybody !
I noticed Altmann's Byob Amplifier is really well known, so I made myself an amplifier in my own style.
Sounds really great :D

It's very pretty. I don't know much about special laquer, but I will say I've built a few wood chassis for amp, DAC, preamp, etc.

I like getting birch ply project panels at homedepot. I like the look of a plywood edge that is rounded over with a router, and finished nicely. Matches the 13 ply Baltic Birch that I like to use for speakers too.

Anyhow, point is ive achieved impressive looking results with a high gloss spray clear poly uerothane. It takes me about a week, to prep, spray, dry, (next day) sand, prep, spray, dry (repeat next day.). Super important to have a low dust environment, and use tack cloth just before spraying. Several thin coats, elbow grease, patience and time. Certainly not difficult, but takes a while.

What's the special lacquer?

Love it. I've got about 50 op amps to tube-o-late.

The only effect this product could have is to mitigate microphonic effect. Are op amps and transistors subject to microphonic effects? Certainly not as much as tubes or those huge capacitors used in tube circuits back in the day. Plus the electronics was often mounted in the same chassis as the speaker.

The irony is thick. It's my opinion that anyone that shelled out money for this product already got tube-o-lated.

Seriously....... Got to be an "April Fooler"
:spin:

No. Just marketing... :)

Note that in the past various glues and coatings have seeped through semiconductor packages and ruined the die. I recall that being the case with transistors glued together with super glue (for thermal connection) back in the 1990ies. Or at least the super glue was a suspect in some failures. Now I obviously don't know if Altmann's lacquer will do that or if the semiconductor packages are less permeable these days, but it is something to watch out for before smearing random goop on your transistors and ICs. Just saying.

FYI - The OP PM'd me today on another forum trying to learn which IC is used in the real Altmann BYOB. I won't reveal the contents of his PMs (in public) but it was enough to convince me of his pirate intentions, so I banned him on the other forum.

You have the right to share or not, I do not force you.
I am also curious to know the IC used in Byob. But for me that is not important anymore.
If you want diy Byob Amplifier, I will teach you how to do it with the cheapest cost.
You should review your way of thinking.
