Physicists Achieve Perfect Acoustic Absorption | Motherboard
Owen and I had a nice visit last week. The wood shop is up and running at Maker Space North, and it looks like the 24x18" laser and 48x96" router/plasma cutter are in operation too. Waiting to hear about pricing to use those units.
If anyone wants to build speaker or electronics enclosures and doesn't have room or tools, there are now a few options around Ottawa.

Yeah I have been keeping a eye on this for a while. There is also the Ottawa tools library which is slowly getting up and running.
Their laser cutter can't do metal though can it?

The plasma cutter at Maker Space North Does do metal, and it looks like it's operational. Will post when I get confirmation.

Woah that's dope! (I assume it's CNC operated not like the manual one I used in high school) that would make doing enclosures and stuff a zillion times easier (and cheaper)
Talked to Justin at CNC Ottawa, which runs the CNC router and plasma cutter, and laser cutter, at Makerspace North.

These machines are currently only available on a service basis (you provide files, they do cutting). A Maker package at Makerspace North ($50/month) gets you 10% off the regular rate, so $1.80/minute instead of $2.00.
The Maker package does include use of the woodshop, and they recently added decent sized separate jointer and planer.

The Ottawa tools library opened over the weekend, I went to their launch party on Friday since I backed the crowd funding and have been meaning to check out makerspace north.
Anyone going to the makerfair? It's Nov 7 & 8th. Maker Faire Ottawa 2015: Canada's First Featured Maker Faire
Also is anyone interested in a informal meet up? I would love to pick someones brain about a few electronics things.

Not sure how it went down last year planning wise since it was my first time - but are we intending to meet up in 2016? (makerspace north might be a good spot!)
This time around I hopefully will have some stuff to show....
- ordered my relay/input switch PCB the other day (trying out dirtypcbs instead of seeedstudio this time) https://github.com/jjrh/audio_relay_input_switch
- almost done the routing on my 7805/7905 PSU https://github.com/jjrh/powersupply_5v_v1 - maybe by the time you read this I will have done gitpush
- PGA2311 board is ready to be shipped (that's the first SMD board I have done - going to try and get a stencil made) https://github.com/jjrh/PGA2311
