I am looking at building a simple ampllifier from basics. I want it to be about 20-25w, with tone controls
I have been looking at the LM1876 as the power amp stage, with the LM1036 for the controller
The thing I note is the optimal power input for the LM1876 is +-25v, with the lm1036 is at +-9-16v
Can ayone guide me to a power supply setup that is suitable, or a more suitable starting point?
Aim is for a bedroom system so not looking at high power
Best wishes

Hi
According to the LM1036 datasheet, it only requires single end Vcc, 9-16V. So 12V 50mA limit should suffice. A LM317 would probably work fine but here is another simple approach...4092 and 4117 J-fets, 4117 has Idss ~50uA. BC517 is a Darlington with DC beta of ~60,000 @ 50mA.
PS, I don't like using Zener voltage references in a PS...they're noisy. J-fets are much better.
PSS, If you are winding your own power transformer you could simply include another secondary winding, would be more efficient.

Thanks folk for the input, I will do a layout and post it as well - I will probabbly buy the transformer as there is a specialist company locally - though if I find a nice core who knows
Greg, I saw your project 72, which led me to the LM1876, being a dual channel chip- will be interesting to see how things turn out
as I am just starting out it should be fun
I also found an interesting layout for an ipod interface which I will be including as well
Best wishes
