Damping of Metal Chassis

Hello DIYers,

What approach might be recommended to acoustically damp a steel amplifier chassis, particularly the top cover and bottom plate (while being fire retardant)?

The goal here is to reduce the metallic “dong” that a knuckle wrap makes, using something just a few millimetres thick.

Maybe damping mats like used in the engine room of cars

Stiffening rib.

This will be difficult if you have ventilation holes in the covers.
If so, try the stiffening rib first, since it won't interfere much with the vents.

You cut holes in the damping material to match those in the chassis, too.

I like to use 3M 434 vibration damping tape. Very effective!
