Current drive, voltage drive, it's all the same except for how they response to VC heating and some differences in distortion. The driver's impedance is what it is and Ohm's law applies. Put a resistance in series with the driver and you just have a voltage divider circuit that alters the response because V across and I through the VC are a function of the impedances in the circuit. Take a look at the SPL for this driver and you will find that the changed in SP at any frequency is just because of a change in V and I. Note that a 20 HZ the SPL is about the same in either case because V and I are about the same.
