I am building some satellite speakers and had two questions. First can I add a 4 ohm resistor to a pair of 8 ohm speakers in parallel to make it act like it has an 8 ohm impedence? Secondly I designed the enclosure to play to about 80 hz but would I need a low frequency cutoff at 80 hz to protect the speaker? Any input would be helpful.
1) basically yes you can, but a very bad idea, should only
be done if you really have to, bass tuning will be very poor,
and you will waste half your amplifiers power.
2) If its a sealed speaker basically no, reflexed probably
yes, but it depends on how hard you will be running them.
