Anyone thinks that one might use Intel PIV Processor heatsinks for an Aleph 3 or 5 project ?
I have a box full of them . Pentium IV boxed, originals
Some have a flat bottom alu only with fins straight up and some have a cooper heart and then the fins are spreading circular
All of them are equipped with fans - quiet ones very easy to work at 3 or 4 volts
I thought first to use them as one for each MOSFET - with or without fans
Or to place them and tight them together on an alluminium plate ?
Stupid ?

Size of a cooler is about 10x7cm with 5 cm fins . Pretty aglomerated though
For 4 coolers I have an 28x10x5cm radiator with a lot of fins
But as far as i know too many fins together are not efficient unless you ventilate them
Bottom line - because Intel or AMD sites are poor in info .Does anyone knows what is the (passive) thermal coefficient for such a heatsink.

I have 2 "Tower 112" Heat Pipes by Thermaltake I think. They are made for P4 processors. I tested one at 100W with 2 TO-247 pkgs and the fan at a barely audible level(for me) and I believe it will do the trick. I did not get any temp measurements but I think the surface of the radiator portion was at about 60C... You have to consider, you have a die or a case thermally conductive contact area dumping 1/3-1/2 that 300-350W power supply. I would hope these things can dump 100W. And, at $20-100 they are a great deal compared to the Thermalloys and Conrads... It is difficult to use the lower profile units and still have a quite fan. The heat pipe like I have has alot of area, a 4"x4"x4" block of copper radiator. You can even get complete processor water cooling systems for those Monster amps and just use 2, 4 or 6 of the processor portion...
