Has anyone made a very simple class D using NE555 for sub woofers? I am assuming 250 Hz maximum. My feeling is the NE555 might be able to cope with the modest requirements ? 0.1 % THD 500 watts was what I had in mind.

Recently I was testing a Hypex module. It was only when seeing smoke coming from the big load resistor I realized I was using the 10 to 1 probe. The Hypex was totally OK. Bolting it to a postcard sized 2.5 mm thick piece of metal meant it was pumping out full power for hours. Far better than Hypex made be believe. That's what I need but not as elevated in specs. Am I right in thinking Hypex are rugged? Other class D seem less so.

I did not read all of this thread and perhaps this has been covered. I suspect if anyone knew about this someone here would.
