It would be useful if you could post pictures or at the very least a schematic, as we can speculate until the cows come home as to what the problem is, but I suspect someone will be able to put their finger on it very quickly with pics / schematics.
As you have discovered cell phones cause a lot of interference, try putting it next to a CRT and ringing it!
