and the usual trouble with xover
well, first time for me with instrument speaker
interesting what happens
appears like you tune your instrumenty first
and then finetune with the speaker
its interesting, and a surprice
I expected I would need music to adjust the crossover
but apparently not
playing bass does it
its quite easy to hear when it gets better, or worse
and changes to playability is very clear too
below is tweeter xo
just a series inductor on 8" midwoofer
and nothing on 15" woofer
well, I had plans of using active xo
Im not sure now
but the sound is now very close to what I wanted
good and clean definition of each node
but still some work to do on preamp electronics

and this time hopefully a better photo of the finished speaker
have to say, its quite nice to have in the room
well, honestly, Im sure there are much easier ways to achieve the same
or maybe even better
but I had some time to kill
and it was fun
hope you have enjoyed some it too
cheers

hmm, what can I say more about it
well, Im now playing better than ever before
and learning faster too
my two pre effect ''pedals' are now able to give me 4 different sounds, just by using their bypass switch
no other adjusting needed, once set properly
all 4 are good, for different kinds of music, and playing
each sound is not very different from each other, but still enough to affect how I play
so I guess thats ok
but Im not done with the crossover work yet
maybe i could try 6db line level passive on amp input
ofcourse pnly for woofer lowpass, and mid highpass

tweeter xo
I increased series cap from 4.4uf to 6.9uf
a step in the right direction
no sound heard from tweeter, as such
only faint hiss noise
but overall sound improved
playability and precision got faster, somehow
'touchy' stuff
allready thinking about a simpler 'version', with similar good sound

looks like this 12" might do it
FaitalPRO - Professional Loudspeakers Made in Italy
but a 56gr cone might be a little 'weak and ressonating'

Can you measure the voltages going to the tweeter as you play the full range of your "effects".no sound heard from tweeter, as such

It may be that the bass guitar has almost no tweeter content.
Or switch off the bass and mid speakers and listen to the tweeter alone (don't adjust the volume). That should show what the treble content is and why you "hear" that effect.
It may be that the bass guitar has almost no tweeter content.
not much I guess
even so, tweeter phase is still affecting other drivers in the system
but you know that strange and worse things might happen when 'something' rolls off rapidly
tells us about it, please
btw, I have tried a big light coned woofer
and just hated its squeaky midrange
I suspect caused by a too big, stiff and light cone
well, muffled aint too good either
its not so easy at all
hey, I love my new speaker, no doubt about it
and my bass is vey cheap, and a better one ought to give better sound
right now I fancy a 5-string Steinberger
crossover, but still preliminary
not looking perfect at all, but it works
because I have made multiple changes and adjustments, and all resulting in improved precison and playability, I would say it is getting quite good now
but I need to buy more components to any further
still surprising how much a tweeter xo affects the playing

shoot, paralel inductors were shown/drawn with wrong connection
corrected, and a bit different
btw, I shot a few new and better pics of my project
I think you can take it just once more
Im beginning to enjoy it, and it more and more every day
got nice tune, and rocks, its good

crossover change/update
less noise/hiss
and now the 'onboard' tone control pot on bass guitar actually works
makes the sound more airy, instead of just 'nasty'
and even better tune, improving playability further
compressor pedal arrives in a few days
will be interesting what that will do

I compressor will help if your playing seems to be inconsistent.
I once recorded a bass player where his playing was right on but the levels of him hitting the strings were all over the place.
I had to ride that channel a lot during the mix down so adding a compressor fixed most of it.
This is the very reason why some bass amps have compressors built in to their preamp.
Nice Job on that Speaker, tinitus !!!

very nice of you, thanks
I have now tested it with hifi music
better than expected, given the poor xo
but not much to write about either
but the tweeter is the really big surprice
and indicates that my tweeter xo might work
sounds very 'hifi', and clearly points the direction for my future home hifi
the next positive surprice was woofer lower midrange
but also clear that the early bass rolloff result in wimpy 'cardboardbox' bass
only way I can describe the effect
even so, for bass guitar it still produce very good and low bass
at times maybe even too much
just one of those weird things I guess
as for the rest...well
have to work on upper midrange(bigger inductor)
