Hi, here's an update.
I've just tested some of these using a 9V battery, positive to drain, negative to meter. Gate and source tied and returned to meter. Thus VDS = 8.2V, VGS = 0V.
I measured between 12 and 14 mA on different chips, but the Drain Current Ratio was within the 0.9 spec.
Only question I have is why I was getting a negative current reading out of my meter, when the leads were correctly fitted for my measuring. Current is current, I suppose.
I'm happy with the results I got.
