I'd like to mess with some older Complementary Offset Binary DACs, and wanted to make a quick Ebay special USB to I2S to COB converter using some off the shelf parts. I thought the SM5813APT might work, but I think it is only 16 bit. I want something that I can quickly breadboard to check functionality of the used, possibly suspect DACs I buy. Eventually, I want to hard code the logic once I settle on a DAC, but I am not there yet. Any ideas for quick breadboarding?
I used to find them highly interesting but nowadays its more interesting for me to search out general purpose SoCs with DSP capability which can implement whatever transfer function I like. For example this one from NXP has plenty of serial ports and likely enough MMACs for your needs - LPC54114J256BD64QL NXP Semiconductors | Mouser
