That is one of the aspects of the original that I was pretty careful with. Put the need for BSC where the approximate low x-o will be.

You know that the mids will roll-off (approximately) at the baffle step point, so if you use a woofer with a bit of extra oompf, you can achieve whatever BSC you require just by altering the padding on the mids.

I’m having trouble reading the cut sheet 100%. Is the open baffle 18 in * 9 in?

I don't know exactly what size Paul used , but is close to the size that I used in 'Blackwood" 20' x 8.75". I think with 5" drivers you should probably aim at 20" high rather than 18".

Try to arrange it so that the tweeter is approximately at your seated ear level for optimum height.

Well, that piece is 18x9, but then I attached 4.75" wings to the side, making it a "u-frame" enclosure. This means the front baffle is actually 10.5" wide, altogether. Does that make sense?

Andy has a good point about making the u-frame section 20" tall. There's no problem with that. Just be sure to keep the tweeter near your seated ear level.
