They do not oscillate. An oscillator reqires phase shift AND gain >1. These have only one of those qualities.
They follow the signal....obediently...

Maybe, but these little gyrators ARE inductors without the turns

They are SIMULATED inductors. They don't have a magnetic field and associated ear candy.

So,I'm sorry to say that wasn't much and that is precisely why I said:
I doubt it.

If the transformer is hefty enough and you want to build it that way than that's fine by me.

You're not overlooking anything really,but I'm a bit worried about sound degradation of that lovely preamp.
It's all yours of course.

One Last Question

I just want to say thanks to everyone who's contributed, you guys have helped me a lot. I've settled on the headwize ckt- not too basic, not overly complex, and allows midrange adjustment.

Just one last question- can I just feed this with the preamp and run the output to the power amp? I.E. treat it like an outboard piece of equipment? Or will it need to be integrated mid-ckt?

Absolutely.
It would also make for the best possible practical solution IMO.
You can hook it up whenever you need it.

Frank, that circuit is on page 668 in the RDH, 4th ed.
It's called the "Two-stage, Universal Tone Control."

They have a freq response graph for it too. Good stuff.

I think it was reprinted in one of those "Audio Anthology" issues.

Cool. There was nothing specific about domestic or instrument use (or maybe I missed it because I was tired), and if it was to be for instruments, I was going to suggest the Tone Stack Calulator at Duncan Amps.
