No, it is in pentode mode. I don't think there would be any problems with G2 when triode strapped, look at graphs.

GK-71s g2 voltage limit is only 400 V.
I believe the g2 limit to look at is not the voltage in triode mode...but the current limit of the g2 as the g2 becomes quasi a mesh anode, the current can become quiet significant, but depends obviously where you set the bias.

The correct item for this is in fact an NTC thermistor or surge current limiter.
