Hi Guys

The output "catch" diodes D4,5 in the schematic linked can be any type. Most amps use the 1N400x type. You can upgrade to ultrafasts for pennies, as UF400x.

Schottkys are leaky and not needed here anyway.

These diodes only come on during specific fault conditions that are not likely to occur in hifi. In pro gear where speaker cables might be in a foot path, a cable can be pulled out of the amp while it is driving a heavy load to high levels. The sudden discontinuity of the load will cause the output voltage to rise very quickly - the same as when heavy industries shut down and the mains voltage spikes before it is regulated back.

Have fun

Hi Guys

Ok... I must be hard of reading... hehe

The diodes in the supply lines are there simply to block short drops in the raw rails from getting to the PA front-end. This will be so if the local filters for the front end are a large enough value. Remember, those caps are being drained by a continuous 12-25mAdc in typical builds following Self's guide to stage currents. So, the speed of these diodes is not very important.

Shottkys have lower voltage drops to begin with and that might be of value.

Have fun
