Also add with a 1.5" voice coil power handling should be good,
Xmax also looks decent compared to some of your other options.

As this is based on measured paramaters not specs and its
a 4ohm driver and cheap, I suggest its the sensible choice.

:) sreten.

I would look into that high excursion 6.5 sub from tang band.

Since this thread started, I have bought the TB units.

Two things:

1. It has surprising bass when matched with an 8" drone. I have used it in a 3.5 way for the bedroom system. I am extremely happy.

2. It requires a plate amp or bi-amping. Without it, the driver just won't keep up. EQ be damned, it really needs it own amp.

Ok, I had to read this entire thread twice just to be sure.
Lawbadman :
Since 6.5 inch 4 ohm speakers are so hard to find
Say what? Have NONE of you guys ever heard the term "CAR AUDIO". There must be like 1 trillion 4 ohm 6.5" woofers . Name your price. Starting at almost nothing on ebay to some very nice units (anyone heard of Dynaudio, Focal,etc.). Ok enough of that, my 2 cent suggestion for a reasonable cost/performance driver :
$9(yes) http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?cart_id=4671630.26597&pid=1800
all the way to this not so reasonable

and everything in between;)

LOL May be overkill.

But I agree with the previous post, just go look in car audio. EVERYTHING in car audio is 4 ohm. My 12" subwoofer is a 4 ohm car sub that goes down to 20hz, but it's used in the house :D

My other speakers are 4 ohm car audio speakers too, just run in series on each channel to get 8 ohms ;) . Car audio is very mass produced, which means may be cheaper, so if you look around, you can get a good deal on a nice speaker.

FYI,

I own a pair of these LM-604's. Here are the specs from Solen
back when they carried them (and where I bought mine). They have slightly less xmax than the Tangband's, but are more efficient (not quite as spec'd but still higher than the TB). The difference between them and the Vifa's they replaced (in my car) was not subtle. Their current site lists dealer locations if you are interested. A heck of a driver, but current price unknown (to me). I got mine from Solen for about $40/ea way back when.

Current site: http://www.illusionaudio.com/

Good luck.

Cheers,

AJ
