You definitely need a 3-way, free the mid driver of bass duties ! :D
But 3 ways are much more complex to design, especially passive.

My recommendations:
- Find an already made 3-way like those of Troels or mine ;)
- Go active with a high quality DSP like the Hypex DCLP that can be easily configured with a PC.

Danny

Suggest the miniDSP products. A miniSHARC and some curryman dac's would go a long way. A 2x8 may fit your needs at half the cost of the DLCP and a pair of 2x4's only run $160 +s/h if that fits your requirements.

Hi,

Sadly I have to disagree with all this nonsense. If you want a
pair of monitors for mixing the last thing you should be doing
is attempting to build them yourself if you know very little.

In fact typically two pairs of monitors are used. One pair
is clean high volume to show up more subtle volume
changes and possible distortion in the mix and the
other pair less volume but more tonally accurate
to judge EQ and the imaging.

You want to build a pair of Studio moniters - fine.
Can you ? - generally not a chance if your asking.

rgds, sreten.

Why you'd want to be mixing for a much larger venue
than anything that allows speakers to be 4m apart is
quite beyond me, and very clueless to me.

That is you don't understand what you are supposed
to doing for a typical domestic environment and that
large venues are the large venues problem, not yours.

I don't just want them for mixing and editing and i do want to learn how to make my own, that's why i'm here. It's not something i need within the next few weeks or months, it's something i'm willing to take time to learn to do properly, i'm good with my hands, i'm patient and i have ears that are more than very efficient. And i do work much larger venues than at home sometimes. Worked on 30 000+ watts digi systems. Thing is, at those volumes and venues i could hear the anomalies.
